Do I have to answer questions or show ID?
ICE officers are law enforcement officers. Individuals generally have the right to remain silent and are not required to answer questions. Individuals are not required to show identification to ICE. Refusing to answer questions or show ID does not, by itself, prevent ICE from detaining a person. ICE may still identify a person through fingerprints, records, and prior encounters to determine identity and immigration status.
